Our Parish History

A Brief Retrospective of our Journey

Beginnings

In the summer of 1947, the Rev. Henry Fullerton, accompanied by the Rev. T.P. Ball, Chaplain to the Bishop of Dallas, visited Mineola, Texas, seeking persons interested in organizing an Episcopal Mission in the community.

From these faithful few,  The Church of St Dunstan was borne,  and has been serving the Mineola, Texas community for over 75 years since.   Scroll down for a short trip through time and see how we have arrived at the parish that today we love and enjoy.

Our Current Rector

In an announcement in the summer of 2019, the Bishop of the Diocese of Dallas, The Rt. Rev. Dr. George R. Sumner designated The Church of St. Dunstan as a pro-Cathedral and called St. Dunstan to a leadership role in East Texas under the direction of The Right Reverend Fraser W. Lawton, D.D., St. Dunstan's seventh Rector.

The Church of St. Dunstan began its history as an outreach mission to a rural community.   Today,  our parish serves as, not only the parish home to its members here,  for whom Bishop Lawton is their rector, but also as a resource to help support other smaller Episcopal missions and parishes in rural northeast Texas, for whom he is their Bishop.

The Affiliated Parishes of Northeast Texas (APNET) is organization name for this function.  To learn more, click on the linked text.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.
